No fewer than 13 people died in a road crash on the busy Kaduna-Abuja expressway on Friday. The Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kabir Nadabo, confirmed the incident in Kaduna. According to him, those who died had been moved to St Gerard’s Hospital, while three who survived were immediately conveyed to AP Smart Hospital, Kakuri, for further treatment. A former member of the House of Representatives, Ahman Patigi, has passed away. Mr Patigi, who represented the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State in the 6th, 7th, and 8th Assemblies, died on Thursday at the National Hospital in Abuja. The ex-lawmaker passed away at the age of 59, following an undisclosed illness. In the 8th Assembly, he served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have banned Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial from refereeing, for bringing the game into disrepute. The two Polish officials went on a drunken bender before a Champions League match between Rangers and Dynamo Kyev in Poland in August. UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has now suspended both Frankowski and Musial from refereeing until June 30. The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that a naval officer deployed to Forward Operating Base Dansadau for Operation FANSAN YAMMA allegedly opened fire under questionable circumstances, resulting in the death of a colleague. In a statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, reported that the incident occurred early on Friday at around 3:12 a.m. in the Dansadau area of Katsina State. The Naval officer, identified as Leading Seaman Akila A., has been arrested, disarmed, and detained. Omoyele Sowore, the Sahara Reporters publisher, has alleged that the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had shown conspiracy against Ndigbo, noting that he had expected Tinubu to free the detained freedom fighter immediately he assumed office. The UK Government on Friday donated advanced counter-Improvised Explosives Devices to Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Command Joint Task Force in Maiduguri. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the donation of the equipment marks another milestone in the strategic partnership between the UK and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Counter-IED equipment is created primarily for military and law enforcement. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Friday, said there has been no request for funding from the Nigerian Government. Abebe Selassie, the head of African Department at the IMF, made this known Friday on the sidelines of the World Bank/IMF meetings in Washington DC. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed that two more bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter that crashed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday. Initial reports said three had been recovered even though the police said all eight passengers and crew members were feared dead. In the bid to fight unemployment, the Federal Government through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has announced plans to engage and train no fewer than 93,731 unskilled and unemployed persons across the country.
