The Presidency has rejected recent allegations from opposition figures and some human rights activists that the country is drifting toward a one-party state following a series of high-profile defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, described such claims as baseless, exaggerated, and politically motivated. “The seismic shift caused by Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno’s open declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu, the defection of the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, the former vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last election, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and…
Ipswich Town’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday as the Tractor Boys were beaten by Newcastle United even with four matches before the end of the season. Goals from Alexander Isak and Dan Burn secured all three points for Newcastle against Ipswich and ensured the Tractor Boys will be playing Championship football once again next season. A tough afternoon for Ipswich started badly when Ben Johnson was sent off in the first half, before a penalty on the stroke of half-time from Isak gave the visitors a mountain to climb. Further goals from Dan Burn and William…
A former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has officially declared his intention to contest in the 2027 gubernatorial election in Nasarawa State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform. Adamu made his declaration yesterday, during a meeting with members of the State Working Committee of the APC held in Lafia, the state capital. The former police chief said his decision was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa who, according to him, believe in his leadership capabilities and experience. He pledged to run an all-inclusive and people-oriented administration if elected as governor. “I am answering the call of…
The lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has explained that he quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of poor leadership at both the national and state levels. Speaking on Rave FM’s Frank Talk programme in Osogbo, Oke declared that the PDP would struggle to secure even 1,500 votes from communities in his constituency in the next Osun State election. He accused the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke of deliberately sidelining his constituents from the dividends of democracy, which he said was a major factor in his decision to leave the party. Oke noted that his defection was necessary…
U.S. President, Donald Trump has plans to spare carmakers from some tariffs, Financial Times (FT) reported on Wednesday. It noted that as part of a tariff “destacking” plan, car parts would be relieved of some of the duties imposed by Trump. The exemptions, FT said, would however leave in place a 25 per cent tariff imposed by Trump on all imports of foreign-made cars. It said that a separate 25 per cent levy on parts would remain, but would be put into effect by May 3. “Although Washington had already shielded autos from the ‘reciprocal’ tariffs announced on major trading…

President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), MC Oluomo has responded to criticism over mispronunciation of the word “kudos” as “kundus.” In a viral video on Tuesday, Akinsanya addressed union delegates, saying he’s aware of the jokes at his expense but remains unfazed. He acknowledged his limited formal education, noting that while he may struggle with English, he takes pride in his children’s success, who are citizens of the US and UK. Akinsanya emphasised his achievements, despite humble beginnings, stating he started as a bus conductor but worked his way up to become NURTW’s national president. Oluomo…
Former Senate President, David Mark has called on the federal government to be more proactive in its efforts to tackle the menace of violent crimes, kidnapping and armed herdsmen devastating parts of Nigeria. He suggested that such violent and murderous groups should be declared as terrorists and should be treated as such. In his goodwill message, signed by his special adviser Paul Mumeh, to commemorate this year’s Easter celebrations, Mark bemoaned the unabating violent crimes especially in the North Central states of Plateau and Benue that have claimed dozens of lives and properties. Mark stated: “We must not shy away…
President Bola Tinubu is set to return to Nigeria today after spending close to two weeks abroad, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has confirmed.
