President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed as Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters (Office of the President). Mr. Mohammed is an experienced politician and businessman from Kano State. He is a former Senator representing Kano Central and former Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). The President expects that the new Special Adviser on Senate Matters will deploy his immense experience for enhanced synergy between the Executive and the Legislature and for improved government performance.
Nigerian-born Bayo Dosunmu, Lambeth Council’s chief executive, has quit after being charged with drink-driving and drug possession offences. Dosunmu is accused of fleeing the scene of a car crash in Westminster at the end of June. The 46-year-old from Hammersmith was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of class A drugs, and driving without insurance. Four persons have been rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building located beside Cupid Hotel,Sultan Dansuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council. The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) confirmed the incident occurred around 6:45am. Two of the rescued victims, FEMD said have been taken to the Kubwa General hospital. A section of a two-storey residential building in Abuja collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping several people in the rubble. The building, located beside the well-known Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly a hotel named Al-Hilal. The Peoples Democratic Party has implicated the former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the crisis within the Edo State chapter of the party. Edo PDP has been facing internal conflicts since the governorship primary election on February 22, 2024, which resulted in Asue Ighodalo becoming the governorship candidate. A two-story school collapsed during morning classes Friday in north-central Nigeria, trapping about 120 students and teachers, and setting off a frantic search for those in the rubble. A local television station reported 12 deaths. Authorities are yet to confirm the number of students and teachers killed in Saints Academy college in Plateau state’s Busa Buji community.
