Witnesses said the accident happened in Kura Local Government Area, about 30 minutes drive into the metropols. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states for Saturday, July 20, and Saturday, August 8, 2026, respectively. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced the dates on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), whose nominations were recently approved by the National Assembly. Yakubu also revealed that the Commission is finalising preparations for bye-elections to fill vacant seats in both the National and State Houses of Assembly.
The National Assembly said it plans to deliver a new constitution by December as the Constitution Review Committee of the House of Representatives scheduled its zonal public hearings to begin on July 11. The hearings will deliberate on the 87 prioritised Bills between July 11 and 20 to gather public views on the amendment process.
