The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has said it is not aware of the requirement for Nigerians to have a $10,000 bank balance and pay N640,000 application fee to obtain its visa. The Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, on Wednesday, lost three of his family members to an early morning fire outbreak that gutted his residence at Kofar-Mata quarters in Kano metropolis. The incident occurred early Wednesday while members of the family were said to be asleep. However, the commissioner was said to have narrowly escaped the disaster but lost his daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister Khadija and one Juwairiyya; also a close relative to the incident. The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed for second reading a bill seeking to amend the Appropriation Act, 2024 to provide for the issuance of N6.2tn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation. Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Philip Shaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State months after he was removed from the position.  In a judgment, Justice Omotoso said the impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly was illegal and unconstitutional. The judge held that the impeachment was in gross violation of the Constitution. Aside from restoring Shaibu, the court also ordered that his salaries and allowances should be paid to him from April.

The Legislative arm of Egor Local Government Area in Edo State has impeached the council’s chairman, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, over alleged padding of the council’s supplementary budget and other allegations of corruption. Five suspected cultists have been arrested at the Kogi State Polytechnic, the school’s management said on Wednesday. The suspects were nabbed on Tuesday during the ongoing second semester examination for the 2023/2024 academic session. Disclosing this in a statement, the polytechnic’s spokesman, Uredo Omale, said three students of the institution were also apprehended by the school’s security team, for allegedly peddling hard drugs among other offences.
