Dangote Refinery Denies Crude Resale Claims

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has firmly rejected recent reports alleging that the plant has been reselling crude oil due to operational difficulties.

The claims, published on Friday, suggested that the refinery faced technical issues that led to the resale of crude oil sourced from both the United States and Nigeria. The report also mentioned that the refinery purportedly offered various crude grades, including US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) Midland and Nigerian Escravos and Forcados crudes, and implied that such practices, though rare, have occurred before.

In response, Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communication Officer for Dangote Group, labeled these allegations as unfounded and intended to undermine the refinery’s reputation.

In a statement released on Saturday, Chiejina emphasized that the claims are baseless and aimed at discrediting the refinery. He reassured the public that the refinery’s crude distillation unit (CDU) is functioning efficiently and that the facility does not engage in the resale of crude oil purchased from Nigeria.

Chiejina urged the public to disregard the misleading report, suggesting it reflects the agenda of those opposed to the advancement of local fuel refining.
