Lagos Government Announces Redline Rail To Start Passenger Service By End Of Q3

The Lagos State Government says that the Red Line rail operation will commence by the end of the third quarter of 2024.

This is according to the Director of Rail Transport from the state Metropolitan Area Transport Authority Olasunkanmi Okusaga who spoke during a media parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

Okusaga says the train trial test run has commenced, and passenger operations will kick off fully by the end of September.

The issue of irregular parking was also discussed, and the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) Adebisi Adelabu says the agency is saddled with the responsibility to regulate parking systems across the state, and churches, mosques, and events centres must abide by the policy and operational guidelines put in place by the state government and make payment to the company in charge of parking fee.

As part of efforts to record inter-state buses entering Lagos, the state Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi says the government is digitalising the inter-state transport sector to have accurate data of the number of buses coming in and out of the state for security and safety purposes.

The Special Adviser on Transportation Sola Giwa also cleared the air about the ban on Danfo buses on the Lekki-Epe Expressway way. He said only tricycles and the yellow mini buses also called “Korope” will be banned from the route and will henceforth operate only within the inner route.

He said that the Danfo bus operators who would like to operate along the Lekki-Epe corridor will have to register with the state transport management system, and their buses will be repainted to the state public transport colour for tracking in case of any contravention.

According to him, starting from the 1st of August, the Electronic Call-Up System will commence operation along the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and only registered articulated vehicles will be allowed to operate on that axis.
