Lagos Lawmaker Decries Dumping Of Refuse Along Badagry Expressway

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, has expressed worry over what he described as indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway by market people.

Bonu, who represents Badagry 1 at the Assembly, accused traders at the Agbara Market, Ogun State, of thwarting the government’s effort at ensuring cleaner environments along that route.

The lawmaker highlighted the issue during the 2025 budget defence at the Committee level describing the situation as a growing menace that poses environmental and traffic challenges.

“The Agbara Market in Ogun State has indeed become a significant challenge for the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The market’s proximity to the Badagry corridor has led to the Badagry Expressway being used as a refuse dump causing environmental and traffic concerns,” he said.

The lawmaker emphasised the need for swift intervention by LAWMA and the Lagos State Task Force, urging them to work collaboratively to address the issue.

“This issue was one of the critical points I emphasized during the budget preparation. It is crucial for LAWMA and the Lagos State Task Force to address this situation urgently,” he added.

Bonu’s call comes as Lagos State continues its push for environmental sustainability through various waste management initiatives.
