Most Nigerian Judges Are Analogue, Don’t Understand Technology – Edo PDP Chairman

Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Chairman Edo PDP Caretaker Committee says most Nigerian judges are still analogue and don’t understand how technologies work.

Speaking as a guest on Arise TV, Aziegbemi also described the tribunal ruling affirming Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory as a travesty of justice which will be challenged up to the Supreme Court.

“Yesterday, there was massive, huge travesty of justice. The three-man tribunal chaired by Justice Akpoti for whatever reason, turned jurisprudence on its head”.

“I think we all should embrace technology. We need to take out a lot of hands in some of these things because the more human hands you have in these processes, the more errors you have. Human beings are prone to error and even if someone does not want to be corrupt, you can make mistakes and that will lead to catastrophe”.

“But if you have technology, it helps to make sure that the processes that we are having are close to perfection. So, as a party, we think that technology is the way, we think INEC should deploy more technology”.

“But I think it is at the court that we are seeing that most of these judges with due respect to many of them, we have massive respect to the judiciary, we think many of them are analogue. They don’t seem to have upgraded enough to get to the need of understanding what these technologies are meant for to do and are doing”.

“I am confused and most Nigerians are confused. We don’t seem to understand what the judiciary is trying to do to this country. A document is brought to your court, certified by the authorities made to certify it. The materials were brought to the court, you admitted them. In the ruling on some motions brought yesterday, you said the court admits these documents and you overruled the objections of the 2nd and 3rd respondents”.

“Now, you turned back and say though we admitted those documents, the documents were dumped on us. Is it that at the tribunal level, they don’t want to read or they don’t just want to look at those documents? Is it that something else made them to arrive at that conclusion they arrived at yesterday”?.

Aziegbemi also expressed confidence that the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo will reclaim its mandate at the Supreme Court.

“The candidate and the party, we are taking this thing to the appeal court. We have to take it to the appeal court. Ultimately, we will get to the Supreme Court and make sure that the will of Edo people when they voted for Asue Ighodalo and PDP is upheld”.
