N10.8bn Allegation: EFCC Invites Ogun State Accountant General, Officials For Questioning

The Accountant General of Ogun State, Tunde Aregbesola, along with several other state government officials, has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning regarding allegations of diverting N10.8 billion allocated for the 20 local councils in the state.

Former Ijebu East Local Government Chairman, Mr. Wale Adedayo, had previously submitted a petition to the EFCC, accusing the Dapo Abiodun-led administration of misappropriating the funds intended for the local councils.

Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, confirmed the development to reporters on Wednesday night. Oyewale stated, “I just contacted our Ibadan Zonal office, and it was confirmed that some officials of the Ogun State government were invited for a discussion as part of an ongoing investigation. They have since returned to their state. No one has been detained.”

He added, “I can only tell you that they were officials of the Ogun State government, and it was in connection with an ongoing investigation; it’s not more than that.”

When reached for comment, Mr. Adedayo confirmed that he was aware of the invitation extended to Aregbesola and other officials. He said, “Yes, I heard about it on Tuesday. I am sure it is related to the petition I submitted to the EFCC. A lie can travel a thousand miles, but the truth will catch up with it within a few seconds.”

Adedayo further noted, “A friend informed me that the Accountant General was granted administrative bail to return with some documents he claimed would clear his name. However, others are still being questioned. That’s all I know.”
