Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Friday, swore in 15 new commissioners as members of the State Executive Council. The State House of Assembly had screened and confirmed 16 commissioner nominees, but one of the nominees, Princess Margaret Elayo, was unable to participate in the event due to unspecified reasons.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the City Hall in Lafia, the state capital, Governor Sule urged the new commissioners to avoid corrupt practices while discharging their duties. He emphasized that his administration is built on accountability, transparency, and prudent resource management, warning that corruption would not be tolerated. The Governor explained that the appointments were made after extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas.

Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing policies and programs that directly benefit the people of Nasarawa State. He also charged the new commissioners to be dedicated and result-oriented in their respective ministries. Those sworn in include Yakubu Kwanta from Akwanga LG as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Tanko Tunga from Awe LG as Commissioner for Land and Urban Development, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi from Doma LG as Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Gabriel Agbashi from Doma LG as Commissioner for Science and Technology, and Isaac Amadu from Karu LG as Commissioner for Environment. Others include Ibrahim Tanko from Keffi LG as Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. John Mamman from Kokona LG as Commissioner for Education, Aminu Maifata from Lafia LG as Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, CP Usman Baba (Rtd) from Lafia LG as Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters, Mohammed Ottos from Nasarawa LG as Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Industry, and Mohammed Muluku from Nassarawa Eggon LG as Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development. Also sworn in were David Moyi from Obi LG as Commissioner for Special Duties and Legal Matters, Dr. Gaza Gwamna from Toto LG as Commissioner for Health, Jugbo Samuel from Wamba LG as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Muazu Gosho from Wamba LG as Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Labaran Magaji, commended Governor Sule for his developmental strides and purposeful leadership in the state. He assured the Governor of the total support and loyalty of all political appointees. Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in commissioners, the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Munirat Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the appointments and pledged their commitment to delivering on their responsibilities.

It would be recalled that on January 10, 2025, Governor Sule submitted the names of 16 commissioner nominees to the State Assembly for screening and confirmation. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe; the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau; the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu; and the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Aliyu Bello, among others.
