Nigerians Should Be Grateful To Tinubu For Initiating Bold Reforms – Onanuga

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga says Nigerians should be grateful to President Bola Tinubu for initiating bold reforms which his predecessors were afraid to do while in office.

Speaking on Arise TV ahead of President Tinubu’s second year in office, Onanuga specifically commended the president for the boldness he exhibited in removal of fuel subsidy and allowing a free market which has crashed the initial high prices of fuel.

On the issue of inflation, the media aide also said prices of food items are coming down in the market, another testament to the fact that the president’s reforms are yielding the right results.

“Let me address the issue of inflation. Inflation is coming down. I think we all go to the market and we see that prices are falling. So, inflation is going down. These reforms are not just there momentarily. They are there so that we put our country on a solid footing”.

“These are reforms that ought to have been done decades ago, we kept postponing until we have a president who says ‘ look, let us do this thing now or this country will sink’.

“You really need to commend President Tinubu for the courage that he has demonstrated in bringing those reforms on board. For several decades, we have seen the problem that occurred with fuel subsidy under Jonathan, how people were using it to loot the treasury. Under Obasanjo, the same thing happened but now it is out and you can see the benefit of it”.

“Removing the subsidy, making the market a free market, prices first went up, then it started coming down and that is to the benefit of the Nigerian consumer”.

“So many things are going on. What I see is that, our country needs to be really thankful to this president for initiating so many reforms. The initial problem was that the reforms came simultaneously because Mr. President was in a hurry, he wanted to get a lot of things done. That was what led to the initial problems but we are on firm footing now and things are getting better everyday”.
