Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has challenged opposition parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to work for electoral victory rather than expect a shortcut to the presidency.
Afegbua spoke against the backdrop of the nationwide campaign activities of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the ruling party had demonstrated its preparedness through simultaneous campaigns across the states of the federation.
According to him, the scale of the APC’s mobilisation showed that winning the presidency requires organisation, strategy, structure and stamina.
He questioned the activities of the ADC and NDC, asking whether the opposition parties had demonstrated the same level of preparedness and nationwide mobilisation.
“Did you see beleaguered ADC or the non-starter NDC?” he asked.
Afegbua said there was “no short-cut to Aso Villa”, stressing that political parties seeking to win the presidency must be prepared to work, campaign and mobilise voters across the country.
He said the APC and its various campaign groups understood the nature of presidential contests and had consequently embarked on simultaneous nationwide campaigns.
“The way to know a man who is prepared is typical of the simultaneous campaigns across states of the Federation,” he said.
The commissioner expressed confidence in the APC’s electoral strategy, saying the party remained ahead of its rivals in terms of “strategy, structure and stamina.”
He also commended President Tinubu for his participation in the campaign and urged Nigerians to support continuity in government.
“Give it to President Tinubu. Give it to APC. Give it to continuity,” Afegbua said.
