Former chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) on Tuesday said FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike is the epicentre of the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
On March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency rule on Rivers state after bombing of oil installations in some parts of the state.
He also suspended the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state House of Assembly for six months and appointed a Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas to manage the affairs of the state until normalcy is restored.
Speaking with TheScrutinyNG, Sagay, a renowned constitutional lawyer, said the whole crisis started because of Wike’s attempt to hold on to power after governing the state for eight years and is now holding a major political position in Abuja.
“ The major problem in Rivers is that man, Nyesom Wike and his greed for power . Odili did eight years and he gave the mantle to Amaechi. Amaechi was there for eight years and throughout his tenure, Odili didn’t disturb him”.
“When Amaechi left, Wike took over and also did eight years. Throughout his eight years, Amaechi minded his own business and did not disturb him or tried to be a co-ruler with him”.
“Now Wike had left but he has refused to leave Rivers state alone. Why can’t he allow Rivers to breathe? Why is so desperately trying to suffocate the state? Why does he want to be FCT Minister and Rivers governor at the same time? Why is he so power hungry and power greedy that he will not allow the person who has taken his place to do his job quietly while he is also facing his job in Abuja?”
“For me, the Wike is the epicentre of all the troubles in Rivers because of his greed for power. He should mind his business and allow Rivers state to breathe”.
