A socio-political group, Rescue Nigeria Economy Project (RNEP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to emulate US President, Joe Biden by not seeking reelection in 2027.
The group in a statement on Tuesday signed by its Executive Secretary, Dennis Alamu-George says four years is enough for any serious-minded leader to cause positive changes in the society.
“Right now on X ( formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, the hashtag #ThankYouPresidentBiden is trending. This is because President Biden listened to the voice of reason and chose not to seek reelection as demanded by many Americans, especially members of his Democratic Party”.
“In Nigeria, we call on President Bola Tinubu to do same. God has been kind enough to him to make him realise his lifelong ambition as the president of Africa’s most populous nation. He should be making moves to ensure the best man succeeds him in 2027”.
“It doesn’t have to be his party member right now and no law says it must be his deputy, Shettima. The president should search and get the best man that can turn around the fortunes of the country around and use his power and influence to ensure the person wins the election”.
“Good leaders know that it is not about the years you spent in office but the quality of lives you impact. President Tinubu’s predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari spent eight years in office. What are Nigerians saying about him today. Many believe he left Nigeria far worse than he met it” the group said.
