All security aides assigned to Speaker Mojisola Meranda of the Lagos State House of Assembly have been withdrawn.

As of Thursday morning, police officers and other security details attached to the Speaker were no longer present. The reason for the withdrawal remains unclear, but a source close to Meranda confirmed that she is now without security protection.

“All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn, as well as those attached to the House of Assembly. She is now vulnerable,” the source said.

The development comes amid speculation that Meranda may step down from her position as Speaker following discussions involving senior figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former governors Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba.

The intervention panel, led by Akande and Osoba, reportedly met with key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council, at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina last Sunday. The panel is said to be pushing for both Mudashiru Obasa and Meranda to step down, with a new lawmaker from Lagos West expected to take over leadership of the House.

Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, confirmed the withdrawal of her security aides, stating, “We don’t know why this decision was made, but all police officers and security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She is now on her own.”

Meanwhile, a source within the Obasa camp revealed that security aides assigned to him have now been reinstated. “As of this morning, all of Obasa’s security aides have been restored,” the source said.
