The Lagos Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of Abiola Odutayo in connection with the death of Teejay Opayele, co-founder of Bumpa.

The tragic incident, which occurred on March 4, 2025, sparked public outcry, prompting the police to reaffirm their commitment to justice and transparency in the case.

The death of Opayele, which resulted from a collision on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road in Lagos, has ignited widespread reactions among Nigerians, with many calling for justice in the matter.

According to a statement by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, Odutayo was arraigned on March 12, 2025, at Court 1, Tinubu, Lagos, after discharge from the hospital.

She faces charges of careless and reckless driving on a public highway, which resulted in the death of Opayele.

“We can confirm that following a thorough investigation, Abiola Odutayo was arraigned in Court 1, Tinubu, on March 12, 2025, for driving on a public highway in a reckless and careless manner without due care and attention to other road users, causing the death of one Tunji Opayele, aged 32, thereby committing an offence,”

“The court granted her bail and adjourned the case till April 16, 2025. The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to transparency, fairness, and justice” Hundeyin stated.
