Singer Terry G has claimed he received a request from Wizkid’s legal team to remove their collaborative song, “Mary Jane” from digital streaming platforms.

In an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Adesope, Terry G admitted that he failed to obtain the necessary clearance from Wizkid’s team before releasing the song, which was recorded years ago.

He acknowledged his approach was informal, stating that in his era, collaborations were based on mutual respect and love.

However, he said he has since complied with the request and removed the song from some platforms with plans to take it down from the remaining ones soon.

“I didn’t clear the song I made with Wizkid [‘Mary Jane’] because, in my era, we don’t clear songs; we do collaborations based on love. The lawyers have reached out to me to take the song down.

“To be honest, we’ve got to be professional and do paperwork. Because if that doesn’t work, nothing will work. So trust me, I have pulled down the song. For the platforms that are yet to take it down, I will make sure it is taken down on those platforms, too, soon,” he said.
