Arise Television anchor, Reuben Abati on Thursday says the TV station is ready to conduct interview with Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state in local Benin Language if he finds it difficult to speak English.
Abati made the remarks when Emperor Jarett Tenebe, the APC state chairman appeared on The Morning Show to speak on the party’s chances ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo state.
Addressing Tenebe, Abati said “Please do us a favour. We hope that after this interaction with you, we hope that your candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo will also come around. We have spoken to Asue Ighodalo, we have interviewed Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party. We will be hoping that Monday Okpebholo will also show up before the election on September 21”.
“And we are willing to conduct the interview in local language. We will get interpreters. We can even do the interview in pidgin if English Language is the problem”.
“If he cannot speak English, he will speak Benin. We will bring one of our persons to come and speak Benin to him”.
Responding, Tenebe said having moved several motions in the Senate and spoken at various campaign rallies, it is wrong to claim Okpebholo cannot speak English.
“At least, you have seen Okpebholo moving motion in the senate before. So, the idea of saying he cannot speak English is not even there. You have seen him in our campaigns, you hear him talk”.
