The Nasarawa State Police Command has arraigned gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi in court on charges of murder.
Ajayi is accused of killing and dismembering his alleged girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, after she visited him at his residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The 32-year-old suspect appeared at the Nasarawa State High Court in Lafia, the state capital, on Friday.
The victim, a 24-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja before her tragic death.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, January 12, while attempting to dispose of Salome’s head after dismembering her body. He was later paraded by police along with the weapons allegedly used in the crime, including a knife and machetes.
Ajayi reportedly admitted to the crime, claiming it was unplanned and driven by jealousy. “I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It’s not something I planned. It happened on that day. She was cheating,” he stated. He added that he had discovered conversations with other men on her phone, which led to his actions.
When asked about remorse, Ajayi said, “I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. That is why I don’t have any regrets because we were compatible.”
Salome’s family denied knowing the suspect or being aware of any relationship between him and the victim.
Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, said, “We don’t know this so-called Timi guy. We have never seen him until we were informed that he murdered and dismembered our sister. I demand justice for my sister. He admitted to killing her, and justice must be served.”
