The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has continued with flood intervention in Rivers State by distributing relief items to those affected by the disaster in the Ruhali Community of Ogbogoro Kingdom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The relief items, including rice, garri, vegetable oil and seasoning, were distributed directly to the beneficiaries by NEMA in collaboration with the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency.

The South South zonal coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Adebiyi Rasaq, who represented the NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, flagged off the distribution, which was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims.

A statement by NEMA said she urged the community not to sell the items and emphasized the need for local efforts to clear waterways to prevent future flooding.

The community’s traditional ruler, Chief Lawrence Wosuali, expressed gratitude on behalf of the people for the timely intervention, thanking the Federal Government and NEMA for their support.

Similarly, the community’s women leader, Mrs. Chukwu Constance, and Youth President, Mr. Chuka Ovunda, acknowledged that the relief materials had rekindled hope among the flood victims, who had been struggling with significant losses.

Although heavy rainfall initially interrupted the distribution, it was successfully resumed at the community town hall.
