The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extends its condolences to the family of its third substantive Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, who passed away in Egypt at the age of 61 on Sunday.

Lamorde’s demise occurred in Egypt, where he had traveled for medical treatment. In response to this unfortunate news, the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, expressed the EFCC’s profound shock and sadness.

Oyewale stated, “The EFCC received with shock the sudden death of one of its former Executive Chairmen, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde. Lamorde, a pioneer Director of Operations and the third substantive Chairman of the EFCC from February 15, 2012, to November 9, 2015, served the nation actively as a focused and gallant anti-graft fighter. He will be sorely missed both at the EFCC and the nation at large. The Ccommission prays for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family, the EFCC and the entire nation.”

Born on December 20, 1962, Lamorde began his career in the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. During his tenure as a police officer, he served as the Chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015.

Lamorde’s profile on the EFCC’s website highlights his significant contributions to the Commission. He assumed the role of Acting Chairman on November 3, 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri by former President Goodluck Jonathan. He was later confirmed as the third substantive Chairman of the Commission by the Senate on February 15, 2012.

Lamorde, a native of Mubi, Adamawa State, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 1984. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the EFCC in 2003, serving as its pioneer Director of Operations. Throughout his career, Lamorde demonstrated unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption, leaving a lasting impact on the EFCC and the nation.

His tenure as EFCC Chairman concluded on November 9, 2015, when former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the EFCC. Lamorde’s legacy as a dedicated anti-corruption crusader will be remembered and honored by all who knew him.
