Residents of Kano State have been warned against being part of the planned October 1 protest. The warning was handed down by the state police command which said it would not condone residents being part of the protest, vowing to deal decisively with any person or group of persons that violated the order. A Taliban court publicly flogged a woman in Afghanistan’s northern province of Faryab for having an illegitimate relationship and running away from home. In a statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court announced on Monday, said that the woman received a punishment of 30 lashes and was sentenced to six months in prison. There are indications that ahead of the October 1 protest by some Nigerians, police commands of various states have deployed personnel to some of the flashpoints. The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Beirut, has been recovered, a source close to the movement told AFP yesterday. Friday’s air strike also killed Ali Karake, the group’s top commander in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah said on Sunday. It has not named others who died alongside Nasrallah and Karake. The World Bank has approved three new loan requests totalling $1.57bn in financing for Nigeria.
