Ex-Speaker Obasa Has Some Powerful Forces Backing Him To Breach Peace In Lagos – Fouad Oki

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fouad Oki on Monday says Mudashiru Obasa, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has some powerful forces backing him to breach the peace in the state.

Oki, who spoke on Channels Television programme ‘Politics Today’ also warned that the speakership tussle rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly is assuming a dangerously monstrous dimension that will be a mother of all state legislative crisis in Nigeria if not quickly tamed.

Earlier on Monday, armed security officers drawn from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services stormed the hallowed chamber, preventing the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, from gaining entrance till hours later.

Supporters of the Speaker later overpowered the security officials and gained entrance into the chamber where the lawmakers passed a vote of confidence on her.

While over 36 pro-Meranda lawmakers in the 40-member Assembly pledged loyalty to the first female speaker, Obasa has insisted that his removal was illegal and has gone to court to challenge the process.

“I dare say here that it is not Mudashiru Obasa that is trying to breach the peace in Lagos. He has some people backing him and I will say this, Hon. Wale Oshun sent some video chats, I think yesterday or two days ago and in that chat, he made a very salient point. He said it is only God that inviolate, no earthly person is”.

Oki described Monday’s hullabaloo at the state assembly as a show of shame and a setback for democracy.

“If there are those who do not have a sense of history, those who may be either be benefactors of Hon Mudashiru Obasa or supporting him to cause a breach of the peace in Lagos, we will again put our lives on the line to defend democracy,” We’ve had enough of this nonsense and I think it must stop.

“If you see what happened today, you will begin to look at Rivers State, the mayhem that is also consuming Osun State, you look at what is also happening in Kano, you put all of these together, and it will be like a child’s play to (that of) Lagos”  he said.
