Former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai on Monday said many people in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) supported President Bola Tinubu and in the 2023 general elections and had high expectations from him based on his track record as Lagos state governor.

Speaking on Arise TV, El- Rufai said two years down the line, the high expectations are not materialising.

El-Rufai also that while he remains a member, the APC has abandoned its principles and ideologies for which it was founded.

I am a founding member of the APC and I am still a member of the APC, but I have concerns about how the party is being run or not being run at all and I have expressed those concerns”.

I have expressed those concerns because I feel like a father who has given birth to a child. I know the investment, efforts, and the compromises we have to strike to create what is now known as the APC and how many people sacrificed a lot to ensure that it was an internally democratic party with progressive ideals”.

Two years after the election of President Tinubu, none of the party organs is functioning. The progressive ideals, in my view are not being pursued with any vigour and the very high expectations we have of the president to take this country to the next level based on his track record in Lagos is somehow not materialising”.

El-Rufai however ruled out the possibility of joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party is not an option for him.

One thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not a party that I will go to, ever. In fact, if anything, PDP has gotten worse, so you can rule that out. Other parties? Possibly.”
