In an expression of profound gratitude, the Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Homes in Nigeria has hailed Nigerian superstar, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, for his financial support, calling it an unprecedented act of generosity.

In a letter addressed to Davido and posted on his X page on Thursday, COCHIN President, Dr Eze Ajoku, stated, “We are very happy to note that no other Nigerian has ever done this for the orphanages, neither has the governments given us such a magnanimous support before.”

The letter, which acknowledged the receipt of Davido’s support funds in February 2024, revealed that a total of 42 out of 52 orphanages under the coalition benefited from the donation.

“This support which is a demonstration of your commitment to social responsibility and loving care to these forgotten Nigerian children will go a very long way in making a profound impact in their lives,” the letter read.

COCHIN expressed its sincere appreciation for Davido’s generosity, stating, “These less privileged children and orphans are grateful that you have done this for them as well as inspiring those of us who are the managers in the implementation of sustainable caregiving initiatives generally.”

The organisation assured Davido of its dedication to ensuring judicious use of the resources while expressing hope that he would continue to be a beacon of hope for the less privileged.

The letter further wished, “May our God increase you in every aspect and grant you good health.”

On February 20, Davido announced a 300 million Naira donation to orphanages across the country.

Davido disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle. Davido along with his foundation, David Adeleke Foundation annually made donations to orphanages.
He wrote, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation .. details of disbursement tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, on May 21, during a courtesy visit to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Davido highlighted the importance of private sector contributions to social welfare, noting that government efforts alone are not sufficient to address the needs of orphaned and abandoned children.

He explained that his annual expenditure on orphanages covers various necessities, including food, clothing, education, and medical care, ensuring that the children receive holistic support.

“As for me, I’m doing my part. I have a Foundation. Every year, I share N300million, N400million to orphanages. Just doing my part to assist society. We have a new album coming out in June or July. I just thank you for everything you have been doing for us,” Davido stated.
