Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman ended the season with a goal and an assist but UEFA Europa League winner, Atalanta were beaten Fiorentina 3-2 at home yesterday.

Fiorentina were UEFA Europa Conference League finalists following their 1-0 loss to Olympiacos last Wednesday but they found the right motivation to pip Atalanta at home to end the season eighth spot with 60 points.

Atalanta had already grabbed a UEFA Champions League ticket before the tie having mathematically projected to finish fourth with their 69 points. They could have ended the campaign in third spot with a home win.

It was Lookman that drew his team level six minutes later after Andreas Belotti had given Fiorentina a surprise sixth minute lead. He gave Giorgio Scalvini the pass for Atalanta’s second goal before he was Substituted in the 56th minute by Gianluca Scamacca.

Lookman thus finished the season with 17 goals from 45 games in all competitions for the Zebras.

Elsewhere, Super Eagles defender, Jordan Torunarigha was in thick of action for Gent who pipped Genk 1-0 in a Belgian Pro League to pick a UEFA Europa Conference League Playoff ticket.

Torunarigha played the entire duration of the game as Andrew Hjulsager’s 60th minute strike was enough to hand Gent the UEFA Europa Conference League ticket.
Tolu Arokodare was introduced five minutes after Genk conceded the lobe goal but the Nigerian was unable to change the outcome of the game. Collins Sor, the other Nigerian at Genk is still out injured.

Former Under 23 star, Ibrahim Sunusi made it three goals in two games after he scored in the first minute of CF Montreal’s 2-2 draw at Philadelphia Union.

Sunusi who once played for Nasarawa United and emerged as the NPFL highest scorer in the 2020-21 season has scored five goals from 15 games.
