The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, with 60.55 percent of candidates securing five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics. The Registrar of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made this known while briefing journalists at the NECO headquarters on Thursday in Minna, Niger State. Prof. Wushishi disclosed that a total of 1,376,423 candidates, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females, registered for the exam. The Federal Government has threatened jail terms to private employers who default in paying the N70,000 minimum wage to their employees. This is as it also called on agencies recruiting for the private sector to adhere to the N70,000 minimum wage, warning that any deviation would not be tolerated. According to the Federal Government, the new minimum wage is necessary to address the current economic reality, emphasising that no Nigerian worker, whether in government or private employment, should be paid less than the minimum wage. Following poor maintenance of police barracks which has led to wear and tear of so many barracks in the country with attendant imminent collapse, the Lagos State Government has raised alarm on imminent collapsed of a police barrack, Mopol 20 Barracks, located at Onigbongbo in the Ikeja area of the state. Consequently, the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has concluded plans to start emergency evacuation and demolition of the old Block 3 part of the barracks. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it has delivered sensitive materials that will be used for Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State. The materials, according to a tweet on its X handle, arrived Benin Airport earlier on Wednesday. “Sensitive materials for the Edo State Governorship election, holding on Saturday 21st September 2024, arrived at Benin Airport earlier today”, the commission tweeted. A statement by Yahaya Bello Media Office, signed by the Director, Ohiare Michael, noted that the former governor was accompanied to the EFCC headquarters by high profile Nigerians. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has said that the males in Nigeria are getting more infected with the dreaded Monkey Pox (Mpox) than females. This is according to statistical figures NCDC posted on its website. According to the figures obtained, 67 percent of Mpox cases recorded since January 2024 have been in males. The agency said, “Men are predominantly affected, accounting for approximately 70 per cent of 6,001 suspected and confirmed Mpox cases recorded in Nigeria since September 2017, when the first confirmed cases occurred.” The figures released revealed that a total of 1,031 suspected cases…
